Garden of Eden – Arael-XX
For more than 10 years Gainax had rolled in a hefty amount of merchandise to keep their fans happy (more or less). While the main company SEGA brings out most of the stuff like figurines, gashapon, posters, DVDs and more, other companies like WAVE churn out slower but better quality stuff.
The Angel series by WAVE had the Angels visualised into the female human form, and while the first few had static standing poses, Arael was the first one to be different for the first time.
The entire figurine is casted in transparent blue, and painted over with the flesh tones and white overlay, with the blue/white gradient hair finishing the entire figure. A little on the small side, about the size of a 1/10 scale figurine, but it’s nonetheless detailed and awesome in it’s own right.
The Spear of Longinus being lodged into Arael was a nice touch, since people who’ve watched the anime series would know instantly on which Angel the figurine was depicted as.
The biggest attractive point would be the gradients and transparency working in harmony in the paint job on the figurine. The transparent blue concept fits very well with the matt white finish, unlike in the anime Arael was merely just a glowing white winged creature.
I love the face; it has that innocent stare that pierces deeply into thought. Her expression appears to be carefree, and the mouth is something different from your usual anime-girl expression.
