Due for release July 10, P4 is supposedly a sequel to Persona 3. They upped the production quality of the cutscenes, the maps look more detailed and everything looks slicker.

With P3 having such an awesome plot, visually pleasing character designs, a decidedly abstract loopable OP sequence, and an extremely catchy OST, P4 has quite a lot of expectations to meet.

For one, the new shuujinko (主人公) has this straight cut fringe which screams boring design. I quote Senti…

「P4 shujinko looks like a high school super nerdy shinji, the more i look at it.」

(Lol ‘it’.)

(Meh, I’d probably get used to Margeret, though Elizabeth was a whole lot cuter..)

The BGM retains the jazzy/pop sound of P3, and is probably by the same composer (Shoji Meguro). Whether it is as aurally appeasing as P3’s OST, we’ll see come July :3

On the OP: Style and music-wise, it fits the game well. However, after the first few seconds we don’t see any more use of relevant stylistic elements (no more ‘UWA, TELEVISON TOWER’), and it becomes a hotchpotch of cutscenes a la the P3FES OP.

The rap part sounded a little monotone, but the vocals were generally good. But Burn My Dread is still better! >:3

Moving on, Igor upgrades from the Velvet Elevator to the Velvet Bar. Also, you have a cute loli imouto. And 2 cute classmates. And the Junpei-role, Hanamura. However, all of them (with the exception of Yukiko) are lacking something in their design. Can you say plain?

BUT! Atlus makes it up to us. In a bid to save possible disinterest in P4, they lauched the Great Moe WMD.

THE MEGANE.

I have no idea what The Megane does. It might take the place of the gun Evoker, but they seem to be summoning their Persona with the cards. In any case, the ugly, nerdy shuujinko receives a +10 design boost once he puts on The Megane, and the game automatically becomes fangirl/fanboy bait.

(Brillant move, Atlus. They don’t actually have anything to worry about, though, people will probably buy P4 because of P3’s success)

Plot wise, the PV does not reveal much, aside from the fact that Tartarus is now accessible through the TV. And you live with a cute loli imouto. Um, I have a feeling I said that somewhere before in this post.. Maa, ii ka XD
