Photoshoot: 1/144 Huckebein MkIII

Ok, Sentinel was telling me to write something for the Huckebein kit I finished building recently so maybe its time I push laziness aside and write something..

Hazel: Huh? A new Titans model?

Well first maybe a bit of background information on this mecha. Huckebein is one of the original mecha from the video game series Super Robot Wars. This kit is of the Huckebein MkIII, the third model in the Huckebein series. Story-wise, the Hukebein series is built by the Mao Industries and Huckebein (the first model) is the first mecha to utilize the alien Extra-Over Technology. The MkIII model has two frame modules in its arsenal, the AM Boxer (theres a kit for this one, pretty big one) and AM Gunner frames. That pretty much the tip of the iceberg, for more information you can go to the wiki.

On to the kit. As with most of my kits I just paint what is necessary to up the kit to full color. Its the first time I built a Kotobukiya kit, it feels different from a Bandai kit. Quite a lot of runners for a 1/144 kit, noticed that there are a few identical ones like one for the parts of each leg or hand. The parts are planned in such a way that there is almost no painting need to achieve full color. The only stuff I painted is the white at the head, the grey at the shoulders, some black lines and some yellow and grey at the missile pod. And the “special service” of SRW kits, this one has got prepainted eyes and the top and rear cameras. There are no stickers for this kit.

Another thing I noticed while building is that sometimes when you snap two parts together then you press them, the two parts will close up at first, press some more then the parts will separate a bit. And theres a sound when you press two parts together. And a usual problem with kits, some parts don’t close off or fit nicely. This problem shows up more at the backpack, the main body is pretty fine. A nice thing is that they actually have parts to cover up the hollow part thats near the back of the knees at the upper lower leg. Another thing is that they offer the PC version and the plastic version for some of the joint parts.

In the action department, the arms are pretty decent with the double jointed elbows. It also have nicely sculpted closed fists. It would be good if the shoulder joint can move forward more to make it more posable. The knees are pretty much ok too, bend up to about 135 degrees. The weapon had fits only its rifle, I was hoping that it would fit other Kotobukiya weapons.

Thats Hazel’s hand (and gun) there, barely fitting.
If it was built nicely as in you sand, cement and stuff plus decals it will look really beautiful. Designed by Hajime Katoki and with the clever parts seperation by Kotobukiya, the raw build looks just as charming. Following its true height this 1/144 kit turn out to be pretty big, the main body is about the height to MG Strike Gundam’s shoulders. Its so big that it has problem fittin to the limited backdrop that is the door of my cupboard. Why did I choose this kit? Its because I like its legs and its ‘007′.

Finally, there are a few more pics here.
