Gundam Unicorn to have worldwide simulcast

I couldn’t find the exact reference on monday, so I had to wait for the news and proper link to appear before I could make this post.

Here’s a portion of the article taken from ANN and animeanime.jp:

“The animeanime.jp news website reports on Monday that the Japanese studio Sunrise is planning to release its Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn anime around the world simultaneously. Sunrise had already announced last week that its adaptation of Harutoshi Fukui’s light novels was green-lit for release in the winter of 2009. The Nihon Keizai Shimbun paper had reported earlier this month that Sunrise’s parent company Bandai NAMCO Holdings is planning to distribute its Gundam franchise in 10 languages — Japanese, English, German, French, and others — within this year.

Sunrise has yet to announce the release format of the new Gundam Unicorn anime project.”

It’s great that the Japanese studios are more open to the idea of reaching to the worldwide market with this simulcast. Be movie or OVA or TV series, I personally think it will still do well, though I prefer of the idea of it being released as an OVA the best; movies are quite expensive, while TV series tend to get draggy and missed the whole concept. An OVA would probably the best option among the 3, as long as it doesn’t miss out the main point of the story. If they adapted the novel perfectly, then in that case I’d think that a series would be better; 24 episodes would do.
