Churuya-san meets Achakura…

Second of the three Churuya-san 4-koma.
See the first one here.

The Asakura of the Churuya-san manga is the same height with Churuya (but little Achakura is from Haruhi-chan…)
Can’t think of any other things to tag along the post this time.
Watch out for the last 4-koma soon!

Actually theres quite a few things that I wanted to write about but Churuya-san jumped the queue and got written on first.
Nothing bad about it actually.

On the topic of di:Stage, just yesterday too the “di:Stage Extention Set 02: Clear Case Unit” was announced at the figma blog.

If you check out the blog post, the unit is only 5 pieces of clear panels and you’ll still need a basic set.

Actually I opened it the day after the previous post.
Somehow the eagerness was there.
But I was too busy to do the post then.

Its open!!

Alright! Took some pictures, everything is in place for a little writeup.
So without further ado lets take a closer look at the “Nyoro-n Churuya-san Megassa Limited Edition”(ねんどろいどぷち ちゅるやさん めがっさ限定版).

Packaging

Its basically the same box as the Haruhi-chan Limited Edition only that it is redone in smoked cheese style. The reason is most probably because smoked cheese is the favourite food of Churuya-san. The little window that the figure peeks out is now the back/bottom of the box. Creative redesign, I like!

The inside is similar to the Haruhi-chan LE too. The familiar two tray plastic support design.

Books

Main manga: Front and back (Normal ver. cover)

As said in the previous post, “Megassa” is probably Tsuruya-speak for “mega” or maybe “very”. Ok on to the books. According to a bit of research, the Nyoro-n Churuya-san manga actually started off as a doujin work by Eretto(えれっと) from the circle “Utsura Uraraka“(うつらうららか) more on that later.

One more thing, the book is in full color.

Main manga: Without outer jacket

Heres a rough translation on the history of Nyoro-n Churuya-san manga taken from the JA wiki:

On 15/6/2006 news of the reveal of a Churuya-san illustration on Eretto’s site became the talk of the internet and in the doujin world. After that irregular Churuya-san 4-koma started appearing on the same site and later spawned 3 compiled volumes of doujinshi titled “Nyoron☆Churuya-san”.

As it is a derivative work [spinoff], it received the same amount of attention as the original work. Ascii art and flash animations [staring Churuya-san] appeared on the net (especially the various message boards and personal sites), many characters from other works are parodied as well [drawn in the style of Churuya-san?].

Coming August of 2008, the title announced its serialization on Monthly Comp Ace. The title taken for the serialization has the “☆” , which was in the doujinshi, removed. Nyoron Churuya-san serialized from the November 2008 issue to October 2009 issue then releasing a takubon on September 10.

On 18/12/2008 it is announced to be animated along with fellow parody series “Suzumiya Haruhi-chan no Yuutsu”. The anime was released on the KADOKAWAanime’s Channel on Youtube. It ran from 14/2/2009 to 13/5/2009, ending with 13 episodes [average length of one episode is 2 minutes].

The original creators also sent their good wishes near the end of the book. Theres a message and a cute SD Tsuruya-san drawn by Ito Noizi. Tanigawa Nagaru wrote a message.

Booklet: Front and back

The special booklet that came this time round is kind of a congratulatory booklet with art and 4-koma by other illustrators(names as seen on the back cover) featuring the characters from Nyoro-n Churuya-san.

Figure

The petite Churuya-san is 6cm tall.

Onto the figure itself now. Compared to Usamimi Nagato, Churuya-san has less accessories to play with but she comes with another set of arms to switch from her out-of-box carefree open arms stance to her cute clueless “Nyor~on” stance. You can mix and match the 2 sets of arms too.

Churuya broken up.

A very cute figure, I really like that expression on her face. But her “stiff” long hair hinders the articulation of her head and arms. Also I had to remove the head every time I want to switch arms. The hand part of the right arm of my figure is tighter than the left, not a big problem though.

Churuya, happy to be free.

Would be great if she came with another open mouth face like the one from the upcoming Nendoriod release.

Some fun

Make your own smoked cheese!

Take a look at the photo gallery for all and a few more pictures.

Epilogue?

“Churuya not the star…?”
No worries there, Churuya-san…

(”Humable” probably relates to “human” as the katakana “ヒューマバル” suggests)

Packaging

Sides of the box

The figures come in a similar simple printed box. The 2 sides of the box have perforated half-circles perhaps used to fit in some prize machine?

The packing inside. Master Gundam is packed similarly, see gallery for pictures

The packing inside comes to me as minimal but thoughtful. Rolled up pocketed plastic bags of the pieces separated by a folder cardboard, nicely minimizing knocking and rubbing of parts. As you see in the picture they require minor assembly.

Figure

Paint Job

Both figures are about 14 cm tall. Bigger pictures at the gallery.

The paint job is not as impressive compared to the upper class poseable figures as expected but it is neatly done. Don’t want to mess around with paneling it or painting it as I not sure if the material will react to marker and paints (My painted SD Gundam gachapons seem absorb the panel line and the painted area becomes sticky T^T).

Head

God Gundam could use some panel line but I rather not.

The hole at the heads are small, I had to force them into the neck ball joint. The neck joint has a pretty nice front-back tilt, of course with the must have left-right twist. Nicely scuplted heads, no twisted face, big small eyes whatsoever.

Body

Both figures have a nicely articulated waist, bends forwards, back, left, right and does a nice twist.

Arms

Single-jointed eblows, acceptable for me as they bend up enough. Both come with another set of open fists but it quite hard to switch the fists. The hole at the fist is smaller in order to cup onto a double ball joint piece that connects the fist to the arm.

Legs

Nice articulation for the legs too. Does squating and half kneel fine.

Others

Master Gundam’s joints are looser and smoother compared to God Gundam’s but God Gundam’s joints hold better. Master Gundam also has better details compared to God Gundam. The red part of God Gundam’s “wings” is not in line with the white parts, it angled out forward. Master Gundam becomes pretty unstable when you spread out the wings.

Overall these Humable Models are fun to play with and they handle quite a variety of poses too.

Some Fun

Ok brought you in for 3 months and you’ve gain an attitude, huh?
Good going, you’ve struck the right note there.

“Almost there, you guys will be out soon!”

Yup, its been left in the pile for quite a bit. Had to open it sooner or later so I decided to do a small photoshoot/review of this item.
Ok, lets begin from the packaging!

Packaging

The 6 sides of the box

Sometimes those nice packaging kind of deter me from opening them so before I proceed further here are some snapshots of the packaging.

I like the design at the back of the box, would make a pretty nice wallpaper.

The insides straight out of the box then split to the 2 parts.

In the box is a plastic support made up of two pieces capped back to back, one is a tray holding the two books(more on the books later) and the other holding the figure and accessories.

The books tray is bigger and caps back to back onto the figure holding piece.

Books

Volume 3: Front and Back

The whole product is actually a “super” limited edition of the third collected volume of the parody gag manga “The Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi chan” and as listed on the box it comes with three things: a Nendoroid Petit of Nagato Yuki (Haruhi chan ver.), a “super” rare manga booklet and the collected volume three with a different cover art. The mangaka of both books is Puyo.

Booklet: Front and Back

The small booklet contains a short manga story titled “The Past of Itsuki Koizumi”. What I get is that its about a younger Koizumi executing his first mission in the “Organization”, his first time fighting the giant being in the closed space. He has Arakawa by his side and Mori watches from a far. Mori is shown to be pretty skilled in the manga. The story has a darker feel and a more serious tone compared to the Haruhi chan manga. But in small text at the inside of the back cover it says that it is the past of the Koizumi in Haruhi chan and not the Koizumi of the main series.

Volume 3: Without outer jacket

Didn’t follow the Haruhi chan manga series but watched some of it’s short anime episodes. Volume three contains twelve chapters and a rather dramatic(lol) next book preview.

Figure

The fully equipped Nagato is about 7.1cm tall. I like her eyes…

The figure is called “Usamimi Nagato(うさみみ長門)” or “Nagato Yuki (Haruhi chan ver.)” as written on the box. Usamimi means is rabbit ears [usagi(rabbit) plus mimi(ear)]. There are four parts to the Nendoroid Petit figure: the Nagato figure, usamimi headphones (given to Nagato by Kyon to keep her erogaming to herself), Kimidori-san (a green sentient dog balloon created by Nagato) and the Nendoroid Petit base. The first three parts are well protected with plastic sheets and bags in the plastic holding piece.

Nagato had to be broken to pieces to remove the protective plastic sheets

Kimidori-san has a really smooth and slippery texture. It also has a groove at its under side to catch on to the bridge piece of the headphone but the smooth surface of Kimidori-san will kind of stick onto the matte surface of the headphone and hair after sometime.

The usamimi headphone has an asymmetrical design, the bridge piece is curved in such a way to fit the head better and the left side of the headphone doesn’t cup the ear completely like the right side. The headphone I got had some sticky stuff on the underside of the bridge piece, cleared the sticky stuff up with some sticky tape and its all ok. The laptop she hugs is painted in a almost reflective shiny silver color.

Some Fun

Don’t have many Nedoroid Petits around and didn’t want to scratch any of them so just the Yukis.

Epilogue?

This year’s WF09 is going to kill my wallet. Really.

1/8 scale Canaan from Canaan by Good Smile Company. January 2010 – Price unconfirmed

I’m a semi Type-Moon fan, and I do like Canaan’s designs. Not to mention this figure by Good Smile Company looks sweet enough to drag me out of figurine hiatus. I think.
Other figures to take into consideration after the cut.

Figma Canaan from Canaan by Max Factory. release date unconfirmed – 2,500 Yen retail price.
Of course, if there’s a fixed pose version of Canaan, how could I merely stop at that if they are going to release a Figma version of Canaan?

Nendoroid Canaan & Nendoroid Alphard from Canaan by Good Smile Company. November 2009 – 3,500 Yen retail price.

Not to mention that their Nendoroid variants are cute as well.

Alright, enough of Canaan merchandise. Let’s shift the focus to the rest of the items that caught my interest.

….but all of them are from the nendoroid series ORZ

Nendoroid Minami Chiaki from Minami-ke by Good Smile Company. Date and price unconfirmed.

I died of moe-induced nosebleed and resurrected.

Nendoroid Kotobuki Tsumugi from K-ON! by Good Smile Company. Date and price unconfirmed.

Now, Mugi is one of my favourite K-on girls, and the nendoroid version just screams out to me.
“BUY ME BUY ME.”

Nendoroid Ryogi Shiki from Kara no Kyoukai by Good Smile Company. October 2009 – 3,500 Yen retail price.

I CANNOT RESIST THAT FACE.
I HOPE THERE WILL BE A BLUSHING TSUNDERE POUT FACE VARIANT IN THE NENDOROID XDDD

====

The rest are what would be the plum’s selections:

1/8 scale Index from To Aru Majutsu No Index by Good Smile Company. Price and release date unconfirmed.

After ume cosplayed as ‘uton’ (Index-tan 1 and 2 reference), this figurine would suit her. =D

Nendoroid Churuya-san from Nyoron Churuya-san by Good Smile Company. December 2009 – Price unconfirmed.

SMOKED CHEESE. HOW COULD THE PLUM SAY NO.
